Geraldine Jacobs – Worship (Part One)

Worship is a posture you take that requires your mind, will and emotions to focus on the beauty of Jesus.
There’s a beauty in just positioning your heart to the Author of your story. Posturing your heart reveals the heart of God.

The ability to posture comes from the understanding of Who we are adoring. Now let me tell you this – before He even did anything for me, He is worthy of my heart. Just because He is, I deem that enough reason to exalt Him.

That’s the first understanding: HE IS

One of many scriptures I can use for this is Exodus 3:14 “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

Let me go to my story…

My journey as a worship leader started off by singing in church. To many singers the opportunity to sing is big because people stand in awe of the sound coming from your lungs and you surely enjoy the compliments.
I remember I was 15 and I wanted to sing in church because there was an opportunity. As I’ve set my mind on the song I was going to sing to the congregation.

I couldn’t get the words out of my mouth, I was weeping…
Ask me if I understood what was happening? No, I didn’t.
I was weeping the whole song through.

Thank You Jesus, I now understand that the Holy Spirit grabbed and gently swept me off my feet. The love of Christ filled me in that moment. Me? You love me? Who am I?

Our Pastor’s wife was led by the Holy Spirit to pray with me, and she led me to the one who had just filled me with His Love: Jesus. I said Yes and I got saved. A few months thereafter, I got baptized. I was now commissioned to go do and do my own works of ministry.

For context, I did not fully grasp worship then. I was still singing and even sometimes entertaining. And yes – that’s possible.
You can be saved but still not have an understanding of who God is and what the Grace is on your life.
I was required to be taught and be shown the way, and most importantly read the word of God to bring understanding to this walk with God.

Through different challenges in my walk with God I grew, I fell and got up again. But I never let go, because there is more.
That’s how I got saved.

The deeper things are still to come.
