My Sheep Know My Voice

by Teneale Williams

Every shepherd has a different sound and the sheep who follow them know which voice to follow.
Even when they are among sheep belonging to another shepherd, they easily ignore the other voices and they look out for the One that they are accustomed to.

The same with us, children of God and co-heirs with Christ. He is our Shepherd, as David wrote in Psalm 23 and as Jesus said in John 10:11.

Today, I will be sharing on John 10:27-28 –
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.”

How beautiful it is to know that we are able to know His voice and that He knows us. That He is pleased with us following Him.
He tells that we will never perish and that no man on this earth will be able to snatch us out of His caring hand (Unless we allow for this to happen). He is our Shepherd, and He is our Shepherd for life.

Oftentimes, we have a skewed vision of what a Father should be, and cannot grasp this love that the Father has for us, as He says in John 3:16. It has become too simple for us. The body has chased after the works, while turning away from His Word and the leading of His voice. Instead of telling others to wait, that we need to hear from the Lord before making a decision, we have now started telling the Lord to wait, as we make our own decisions to please man. To do what we think may be right.

In my own personal journey I’ve watched myself wither away in certain seasons because of the fear of what the men or women around me may say and because my ministry does not look like theirs. I found myself in a place of works and being drained because I was not fulfilling God’s perfect Will in the season of rest that He had me in. “Lord, how can I rest when everyone is out there doing all these things for you?” man, oh, man. His seasons are for a reason. His Word in Hebrews 12:1 says that we have to determine the race each of us are on, and each of our races end at the same destination but look different.

The key is that we are obedient to His voice and His leading. The Father had a beautiful plan in place to send His Son to prove that He loves us, raised Him from the dead, ascended Him up into Heaven to intercede for us and then sent His Spirit to dwell in and around us – to help us on the race we are running – it’s His Voice we need to be listening out for.
The still, small voice. The Voice found while reading His Word. The Voice heard in the silence and in your quiet time with Him. The Voice heard while worshipping Him. Pouring our hearts and our oil out upon His feet.
His Voice should become our everything.

If you feel that His voice has become dim to you, simply speak to your Father. Repent for any forms of disobedience, receive the forgiveness, purpose in your heart to read His Word, to spend time with Him more and watch how He once again transforms your life through the leading of His Voice by His Spirit. There is no pressure in this journey, endless love, grace and hope which is readily available through FAITH in Jesus Christ.

His voice will get you through it.
